This is what started it all. Too much beer at a dorm party that resulted me taking on a dare. That's my dorm roommate Cheryl on the left. Partners in crime!

This photo was actually taken in 2006. It shows the entrance to the fire station. The barracks are on the right and the shop and office are on the left. All of these buildings have since been demolished to make way for a new station.

Fires in Jan's neighborhood.

While writing the book Fire Girl, there were a total of seven fires that CDF responded to that were very close to Jan Mendoza's house. One nieghbor nearly lost her home when a grass fire ripped through her entire property. Here are the photos.

Jan and her husband owned a 4000 gallon water tender from 2005-2014 and here are scenes from fires they worked on with the US Forest Service and Cal Fire. 2008 was an especially busy year for fires in California!
